Nigga

I'm just gonna cut straight to the point....Black people, please stop calling each other nigga. Whether you want to say nigger or nigga it doesn't make a difference.

The difference is that "dog," "nephew," etc. don't carry the same historical weight as nigger.

Black folk have been calling each other nigger since the days of slavery because it was beat into us, and our pervasive use of it highlights our collective negative self-image.

Furthermore, cats say it's cool as a Black term of endearment but then get angry if a white person says it. When we use nigga as acceptable descriptor without recognizing it's weight, we give other license to do so as well. I can't think of any other group of people that uses terminology designed to degrade them as terms of endearment.

Sometimes I wonder what our ancestors think about the pervasive use of nigger. I'm not saying the word should never be uttered, I'm saying it should be used in it's proper context. When we as Black folk free ourselves of our self-destructive habits and the systems that create and sustain them, then at that point maybe nigger will be just another word.

And is it just me, or has nigger increased in hip hop over the years?
